Bakery specialist Delice de France is launching two vegan square pies ahead of Veganuary.
A Fake & Ale pie contains steak-style strips and baby onions, cooked in a vegan ale sauce, while a Saag Mangalore combines cauliflower, spinach, chickpeas and lentils in a spicy sauce.
It will also feature Lemon, Chia Seed & Pistachio and Chocolate Cookie Loaf Cakes, alongside a vegan sausage roll. Each was awarded a Gold Star at the 2019 awards, with judges impressed by the firm’s zero quality compromise approach. This set the baker apart, said Paul Maxwell, marketing manager at Delice de France.
“The statistics speak for themselves; vegans and vegetarians look set to make up a quarter of the British population in 2025, with flexitarians – those who will regularly but not exclusively choose meat free options – making up just under half of all UK consumers. It’s crucial therefore, that any viable plant-based options don’t represent a compromise,” said Maxwell.
A total of 350,000 diners have pledged to go vegan for Veganuary 2020, which is up from 200,000 in 2019, according to the Veganuary 2019 survey.
Delice de France has also created a brochure showcasing the baker’s most popular vegan options, including a Demi Brioche Burger Style Bun. Seventy-five percent of the company’s bread range is vegan.
