James Hall & Co has announced a double partnership deal to supply Hovis and Roberts bread products to Spar stores in the north of England.

The Preston-based distributor has invested £1m in a new fleet of lorries as a result of the deal to help deliver a range of bread products as fresh as possible to Spar UK outlets.

Peter Dodding, retail director, James Hall & Co, said: “Bread is a massive footfall driver in convenience stores. The pre-packed bread market is worth £1.8bn but independents and symbol group stores account for just 3% of this. We want to help change that.

“We are determined to build sales, margin and cash profit for our Spar retailers. We feel we can do this by getting the basics right particularly on bakery lines.”

The company has completed a trial of its daily bread delivery scheme in to James Hall’s company-owned store group G&E Murgatroyd, which saw bread sales increase by 4%.
