Greggs director to speak at retail conference

Roisin Currie, group people director at Greggs, will join a panel of keynote speakers in a debate over the future of retail outside London.

Organised by law firm Squire Sanders, ‘The Retail Debate: Fight or Flight, the future of the high street’ will be held at Leeds Metropolitan University on 25 June. It aims to review the ever-changing retail landscape, as one in six shops are boarded up and footfall has dropped by 10% over the past three years.

Currie will join directors and senior management from leading high street, online and out-of-town retail businesses, including Pets at Home, T.M. Lewin, and Mamas & Papas.

Matthew Lewis, head of retail at Squire Sanders, said: “Yorkshire is an important base for retailers. New shopping developments such as Trinity Leeds and Hammerson’s Eastgate will bring new impetus to the region and the Faraday Centre for Retail Excellence in Leeds lends an added dimension to the expertise we have to offer advising a number of the biggest retailers.

“Modern consumers are embracing new technologies and for retailers to survive in this difficult economic climate many need to adapt their current model. The Retail Debate will help individuals to learn from leading names within the industry and hopefully walk away with a clearer picture of the future of retail”.

The event will be run in partnership with the University’s Faraday Centre for Retail Excellence, Retail Trust, British Property Federation and Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.
