Greencore took the top award of the night at the Sammies last week – the British Sandwich Industry Awards – for its Food to Go range.

The Bakery Sandwich Shop of the Year Award was awarded to Cooplands of Doncaster, while Greggs scooped the Specialist Sandwich Bar of the Year gong.

Meanwhile Marks & Spencer’s Ultimate Chicken, Mango and Sweet Chilli Sandwich was crowned New Sandwich of the Year.

The Co-operative’s Chicken Jalfrezi Flatbread, and Waitrose’s Love Life Sweet & Sour Chicken Egg Pancake were both highly commended.

London-based Spianata picked up the platinum accolade for Independent Sandwich Bar of the Year, with Pardoe & Wood and Nuvo awarded a gold award.

Melton Foods won The BSA Sandwich Manufacturer of the Year Award, and Camden Food Company walked away as En-Route Sandwich Retailer of the Year.

The supermarkets shared the spoils in the Sandwich Retail Multiple of the Year, and Sandwich Convenience Retailer of the Year awards, with Sainsbury’s and Tesco crowned winners of those categories, respectively.

Other awards included the Coffee Bar Sandwich Retailer of the Year Award, with the ‘chain category’ won by Costa.
