Soft drinks manufacturer Britvic has become the latest victim of the awful summer weather.

The company yesterday blamed the rain and a  disasterous product recall for a fall in its third quarter revenues, in a period that was described as ‘extremely challenging by’ by chief executive Paul Moody.

The recall of Fruit Shoot and Fruit Shoot Hydro - which featured a dodgy new sports cap -  hit its revenue by 2%, said Britvic.

Group revenue declined by 5.1% at a constant currency. In Great Britain the company saw its sales dip by 6.9% and volumes dropped by 7.1%.

The company is pruning back capital spending to £50m this year as a result.
