The Village Bakery is Wales’ fastest-growing company

The Village Bakery, Wrexham has been titled Wales’ fastest-growing company at the Fast Growth 50 awards.

Held at the Mercure Holland House hotel on Newport Road, Cardiff earlier this month, the bakery won the award after sales grew more than 1,500%. 

Established in 2010, The Village Bakery has seen its turnover rise from £401,000 to £6.6m last year, which is “testament to the hard work” of the bakery’s staff, according to managing director Robin Jones.

Employing more than 250 staff with a view to hire another 50, the bakery hopes to build a further 60,000sq ft production, office and innovation space, in a bid to increase turnover to £35m over the next five years.

According to the bakery, its success lies in its ability “to react to customers’ needs in a timely manner by listening to what they want and then delivering them a timely and quality service”. It added that forming a close and trusted relationship with major customers aided a fast growth rate.

Commenting on the award, Jones said: “We were very pleased to win. It’s fantastic for us and is definitely going to help business.”

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “The Village Bakery in Wrexham is aiming to further strengthen its relationship with its major customers and will ensure that any investment in the bakery is aligned to their needs and their growth aspirations.

“The business has a very small, but focused management team, with the ability to look at opportunities in a very short timescale and give customers an answer in weeks if not days. This gives a competitive advantage over larger more cumbersome rivals, who can debate opportunities for months or even longer.”
