Cupcake brand House of Cuckoo has launched in 20 Waitrose stores today.
The range includes two flavours: banana and vanilla, and beetroot and chocolate. A box of four costs £5.00.
Speaking to British Baker in August, founders Carolyn Nicholas and Chieko Clark said that the idea for vegetable cupcakes came when they were trying to get their young children to eat vegetables.
"The kids were at the age when we were puréeing their food," said Clark. "The children love sweet treats, so by mixing it into the cakes we were killing two birds with one stone.”
Commenting on the launch, Marianne Robson, bakery buyer at Waitrose, said:"’We first heard about House of Cuckoo from a branch partner in the Brighton area. The ladies are real characters, and I like the unusual and quirky nature of their cupcakes. They’re slightly savoury, because of the vegetables they use, which makes them different to anything else we currently sell. They are beautiful cupcakes, and I’m excited to see how our customers react to such an innovative product."
