AW Curtis Bakers and Butchers Ltd has pledged to review its hazard procedures after a screw was found in one of its buns.

Speaking to British Baker¸ Neil Curtis, owner, said that the business was taking appropriate steps, such as installing a metal detector, to ensure the incident was not repeated.

He said: “We will review the hazard procedures, our staff training and take measures to ensure that this doesn’t reoccur.”

The screw was found by a customer last summer in a £1.20 pack of buns supplied to Budgens supermarket in Waddington, Lincolnshire.

On Monday (20 January) Curtis appeared at Lincoln Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to having inadequate food hygiene procedures in place for a period of more than six months.

He also admitted failure to ensure that food equipment was maintained in a good condition.

The firm was fined £8,000, as well as additional costs.
