Waitrose introduces new-style bakery counters

Waitrose has launched new-look bakery and patisserie counters in 12 branches, selling coffee, cakes and pastries to take away or eat in.

The launch is part of the retailer’s new range of hospitality concepts, including juice bars and deli and wine grazing areas, where customers can eat and drink in different areas of the store.

The new bakery counters, some of which have seating areas nearby, sell hot drinks and croissants for 65p, while each week a selected cake is available at half price and can be purchased whole for £10 or by the slice for 99p.

The bakeries also sell a range of eight new artisanal sourdough breads, which are made in branch and sold from a rustic bread table as a way of “bringing the bread-making process to the shop floor”, said a spokesperson.

The 12 branches with the new-look bakery and patisserie concepts are: Cambridge, Kingston, Edenbridge, Keynsham, Harrogate, Locks Heath, Towcester, Sherbourne, Stroud, Hove, Swindon and Hereford.
