The UK’s food and grocery industry has today announced that it will provide more than 15,000 training opportunities to Britain’s unemployed this September.

Research commissioned by the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) has revealed that many job-seekers lack essential skills such as CV-writing and a good interview manner.

Now in its third year, IGD’s Feeding Britain’s Future campaign will address these problems and encourage hundreds of UK food and grocery companies to help improve employability skills in the UK.

The research also found that unemployed people are finding it as tough as ever to secure a job; career guidance is unsatisfactory; the young unemployed are trapped by needing experience to get a job, but are unable to get experience; employers are failing to provide useful feedback to unsuccessful applicants; and unemployed people feel that UK businesses are not doing enough to engage with them.
