Ms Cupcake baker stars in online video

The founder of London’s first entirely vegan bakery Ms Cupcake has starred in an online film, made by the British Library.

The film aims to help bakers grow their businesses using the unique resources available at the library’s Business and IP centre.

It explains how the entrepreneur grew her bakery, based in Brixton, by taking part in the British Library’s Innovation for Growth Programme.

Morgan, AKA Ms Cupcake, said: “The British Library loves start-up businesses and they want to help you grow that business. Their Innovation for Growth Programme is a combination of one-on-one meetings with experts in their field, seminars and speed mentoring.”

The vegan baker won the Rising Star Award at British Baker’s Baking Industry Awards 2011 in recognition of her success since she launched her business in 2010 before opening the shop in April 2011.
Three years on, Morgan, who is originally from Canada, is still benefitting from the help of the British Library.

Expansion

“As we’re beginning to expand nationally and internationally, The British Library is where I’m turning to,” Morgan added. “They’re able to help me with that growth path, to go on and on; the sky’s the limit.

“When you first think of The British Library you think of this huge inaccessible building for really, really intelligent people, but actually it’s a hub of creativity a place where people go to meet to talk to each other and share ideas and be inspired by different things.”

The bakery prides itself on offering ‘free from’ cake to the masses, and is 100% vegan with gluten-free cakes also available.
