Bacheldre Watermill for sale for £1.4m

An award-winning watermill business, which supplies organic and traditional flours and bread mixes, has been placed on the market for £1.4m.

Bacheldre Watermill, which occupies a three-acre site near Churchstoke in the Welsh Marches, supplies Waitrose and has supplied the Jamie Oliver JME brand in the past.

Current owners Matt and Anne Scott are “seeking a new challenge”.

Matt Scott said: “We have got a focused and exciting business plan, which we can share with the new owners to give them inspiration to enter new markets and quickly reach £1m turnover.

“We have invested in excess of £500,000 since we have been here and the mill is a real blend of old and new technology, with the capacity to produce in excess of a tonne of flour an hour, delivering a traditional product in the safest way possible to the high level demanded by today’s commercial world.”

He added: “We have concentrated on transporting and packing the flour, which is now a relatively easy job. Through the support of the Welsh Government, we have been able to take the business forward to make it bigger and better. It’s a nice package to hand over.”

The growing business has won more than 20 awards, including the Waitrose supreme champion for small producers in 2005, for its flours, and now counts the upmarket supermarket as one of its main customers alongside shop chains, small delis and micro bakeries.

It has been put on the market with Shrewsbury commercial agent Halls.
