Loughborough based Geary’s bakery plans to spend £2m on a 10,000sq ft extension, British Baker can reveal.

The extension will allow the bakery to double its current capacity and production rates.

The current bakery produces rolls and breads, but the new extension will be used to bake only bread.

It will increase sales by 100% on both bread and rolls, and sales in the last 4 years have quadrupled, acording to the bakery.

It has been just four years since the company moved to its new location in Barrow upon Soar.

Managing director, Jason Geary said: “Four years ago we moved from Ratby, where we had been for 106 years. We didn’t envisage that, in those four years we’d be bursting at the seams - hence the extension. Baking is not the easiest business, but obviously we are expanding and that is good news for the industry.”

Planning for the extension started last year when the bakery realised that it needed extra capacity for growth.

The building will house two new travelling ovens, and is set to be used in October this year.
