Two of Pieminister’s hybrid pies have been named by the shareholders (known as ‘punks’) of Scottish craft beer company, Brewdog.

The pie-makers collaborated with Brewdog to make the new products, using the company’s most popular beers.

The Moodog and The Chick n’hop, as named by the punks, are made with BrewDog’s 5am Saint and Punk IPA beers, and will be available in UK bars from mid-July.

Jon Simon, Pieminister co-founder and joint managing director, said: “BrewDog has shaken up the British brewery industry, making beers ‘for the people, by the people’.

"We like what they stand for and knew that if we gave BrewDog’s shareholders some pies to taste, rate and name, they wouldn’t mince their words. Luckily for us, the pies went down a storm and the punks have given them their blessing. Now you can try them too, with your favourite BrewDog beer.”

Farm animal welfare award

The pie company has also been awarded for its contribution to farm animal welfare. Compassion in World Farming awarded Pieminister a ‘Good Pig Award’, in recognition of the company’s commitment to pig welfare.

The awards recognise companies which prioritise sourcing and producing high-welfare eggs, meat and dairy.

Tristan Hogg, Pieminister’s other co-founder and joint MD, said: “We’re delighted to have a Good Pig Award and will use it to fly the flag for farm animal welfare.

"Our customers care where their food comes from and put farm animal welfare right up there with great taste. We will keep challenging ourselves with new ways to be a responsible and sustainable brand and continue to champion the great work Compassion in World Farming does.”
