Railway-based coffee shop chain to expand and hit the high-street

The Flying Coffee Bean is to double its number of coffee shops before venturing onto the high street.

The company, which operates six sites at south east rail stations, plans to convert a further six mobile units to The Flying Coffee Bean Brand.

Plus, owner Barney Clevely, told British Baker he is also looking at shops on the high street, to be open by 2015, following the success of his mainly transport hub based business.

Clevely said: “We have got a real platform for sales at railway stations, and we have some fantastic sites in the exhibition market, but I think we have got to venture out to the high street.”

This follows the success of Denmark Hill station, south London, which opens out onto the street, as well as serving rail users. The site has been decorated with recycled materials and furniture.

The new individual coffee shops will sell a range of teas and coffee from The Drury Tea & Coffee Company, which uses Rainforest Alliance Certified farms to source its coffee beans.

Clevely said the tea was chosen with help from Drurys, because it was quick brewing and allowed customers to deposit the tea bag before travelling on the train.
