Sales up for Starbucks

Starbucks has seen a 3% rise in third quarter European like-for-like sales.

This has been driven by a 2% lift in transactions and a 2% rise on average spend.

Globally, the company saw comparable sales rise by 6%, it’s 18th consecutive quarter increase.

Unveiling its results for the 13 weeks to 29 June 2014, the company saw global revenue grow by 11% to $4.2bn (£2.5m).

Howard Schultz, chairman, founder and chief executive of Starbucks, said: “The EMEA demonstrated continued progress against transformation plan, delivering comp growth of 3% with key UK market comps outpacing the EMEA regions overall. The outlook for the UK in particular continues to be positive, supported by declining unemployment and the expectation of a sixth consecutive quarter of positive GDP growth.”

There has been no update regarding plans for La Boulange, its UK artisan bakery brand, which was launched in August last year.

The company purchased the bakery range to incorporate La Boulange products into its coffee houses.
