A number of UK venues have launched their own versions of afternoon tea for Afternoon Tea Week, running from 11 to 17 August.

Chocolate fudge beach huts, mini ice-cream cones and golden eggs will be featured in various afternoon tea offerings across the UK.

According to Keith Newton, founder of Afternoon Tea Week and managing director of afternoontea.co.uk, the online home of afternoon tea, the week offers bakeries the chance to increase footfall through showcasing products.

He told British Baker: “Afternoon tea is a great British tradition. It offers bakeries the opportunity to not only show off classic British recipes, but also to get creative and come up with exciting new patisserie. Afternoon Tea Week is a great way to attract customers as it appeals to both tourists and locals looking for a special treat."

London chocolatier Paul A Young will launch his cream teas topped with salted caramel sauce and served with an award-winning truffle, as part of the week-long event.

Other afternoon tea themes to be featured in the week include a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-style event at One Aldwych, and a ‘Gentlemen’s’ afternoon tea at Sanctum.
