The Kandy Bar Bakery in Scotland has come to the aid of a terminally ill man with a delivery of his favourite pies.

Craig Ballantyne, 55, is suffering from cancer and Scotch pies are one of the only things he has an appetite for.
Originally from Saltcoats, Scotland, but now living in Wiltshire, his wife took to Facebook after finding out that the Kandy Bar Bakery was crowned World Scotch Pie champions this year to try and get some delivered.

The bakery does not usually deliver pies, but when Kandy Bar’s owner and previous Scottish Baker of the year Stephen McCallister heard about the situation, he arranged a relay delivery with a group of ex-army volunteers, to get the pies to Ballantyne.

He said: “I just wanted to make sure he got one of his final requests. He is the same age as me and a Saltcoats man just like me, and my heart really went out to him.

“If we can give him a moment of happiness, then it will all be worth it.”

The journey updates were posted on the Kandy Bar’s Facebook page and the pies arrived yesterday evening just in time for dinner.

In a comment to friends and family of the man, the bakery said: “These pies, like all our bakery goods, are baked with love by us for you. It’s a small gesture that we hope will remind your husband of his home town. We’re delighted to be able to fulfil his wish.”
