Luxury cake-maker and TV star Mich Turner will present the National Cupcake Championship winners with their awards next month at the NEC.

More than 100 entries have made it through to the final, across eight categories, with 16 prestigious judges drafted in to pick the winners based on taste, bakery skill, originality and presentation.

Professionals and home bakers will be judged separately across four categories: Classic Cupcake; Made With Alcohol; Themed; and Free-from. The final will take place during the Cake International event - in association with National Cupcake Week (15 to 21 September 2014) – at Birmingham’s NEC on 8 November.

The panel of judges includes expert cake-maker Fiona Cairns, master chocolatier Will Torrent and last year’s home baker winner, who now runs her own cake business, Shalini Sriskandarasa.

Following hours of judging, a winner in each category will be chosen, as well as an overall home baker and overall professional champion. They will then be presented with their certificates live on stage by Mich Turner, the ‘queen of couture cupcakes’, who founded the Little Venice Cake Company in 1999.

National Cupcake Week is partnered by Cake International and charity Wellbeing of Women and is sponsored by Cater For You and Barry Callebaut.
