The baking industry has written to Prime Minister David Cameron, to express concern about his decision to give up bread.
The Federation of Bakers (FoB) and the Craft Bakers’ Association (CBA) posted their letters to Number 10, after Cameron announced that “bread was off”, in a bid to lose weight.
Both organisations voiced concerns that giving up bread is not the best way to lose weight.
The bakery bodies met last week to discuss the ways they could banish the negative reputation bread has when it comes to diets.
CBA executive director Mike Holling said: “Both associations have the same targets to promote the nutritional goodness of bread. Our correspondence to David Cameron reinforces these facts
“Bread is the staff of life and we remind the Prime Minister that the craft baker is an integral part of British high street.
“We await a reply from 10 Downing Street.”

British Baker has also contacted Cameron regarding his decision to bin bread, but no response has so far been received.
