The Flour Pot Bakery in Brighton is to open two more sites, as it also secures its first London customers for wholesale.

The business will open the new site in early March before opening another food-to-go hole-in-the-wall business in the near future.

The hole in the wall will serve made-to-order sandwiches and soups to go in Brighton city centre.

Bakery owner Oliver Hyde also told British Baker of plans to expand the wholesale side of the bakery into the capital, after it secured its first “significant customers” in the central London area.

The bakery currently supplies to a plethora of independent restaurant chains, operators and cafés around the Brighton area, but plans to gather more business in the capital.

The new site in Elm Grove, Brighton, has been designed by Hyde’s wife, Jasmine, and is in a more residential area than its current shop in the city centre. The shop products are also baked in a production kitchen in Hove.

Hyde said: “It is organic growth; we are trying to create a business that is sustainable to each shop stands on its own feet, and we will grow our wholesale business too.

“The new shop is in an area with a lot of independently owned homes, it is more residential, but we believe we will be very popular there. Our products are all made from scratch and that’s an ethos we will be celebrating.”

Hyde is also owner of Juniper Catering business, and set up Mexican food place Bang Bang Burrito in Brighton.

The bakery has grown in line with Small Batch coffee shop - a local business to which Flour Pot was a supplier. Small Batch now has five shops in the south.

Hyde was keen to open more sites in the future, and said that the business was very comfortable in corner café shops.

The bakery operates seven days a week, and produces breads, cakes, pastries, as well as serving fresh coffee in its shops.
