Fox’s Biscuits has confirmed there could be redundancies at its Batley factory, West Yorkshire.

Up to 80 of the 910 employees at the site could be at risk, as it enters a 45-day consultation period.

A spokesperson for the 2 Sisters Food Group, the parent company of Fox’s Biscuits, said: “We can confirm we have entered into a period of consultation with some of our colleagues at our site in Batley.

“It is far too early to say what impact this will have, but some roles will regrettably be at risk of redundancy. However, we will be working hard with colleagues to minimise the impact of our proposals and look at all alternative options, including voluntary redundancy, redeployments and the creation of some new roles”

British Baker understands that a 45-day consultation has now started, involving managers, employees and representatives of the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU).

There has been no explanation so far as to why the Batley factory is in this position.

This comes after the biscuit company invested £10m into a relaunch campaign for the brand, which saw Vinnie the Panda become Fox’s chief of biscuits.

It also said in October last year that it would make a £20m investment in infrastructure over the next 18 months to drive down costs.
