Top London chocolatier Paul A Young is searching for “the best” hot cross bun supplier to be judged on Saturday.

Young, who runs four outlets across London, is creating a Hot Cross Bun Collection and is on the hunt for a top supplier. Quality artisan bakers are invited to send six of their best traditional hot cross buns for consideration, clearly labelled, to 143 Wardour Street, London W1F 8WA to arrive by Friday 6 March.

The team, led by Young, will pick their favourite, or favourites, during a blind taste test. He has a number of ideas for ways to incorporate the traditional Easter-baked item into products for the holiday, including a hot cross bun caramel spread.

The winning supplier will be credited in all relevant communications, including press releases and social media, and their branding will be used in Paul A Young shop windows.

“We are looking for the best hot cross bun,” Young told British Baker. “I’ll be using the bun as an ingredient. It will be innovative.” He hinted at a brownie/hot cross bun creation, but refused to give details as he prefers to let customers know first to sustain excitement levels.

Young collaborates with several other companies, including the Grosvenor House Hotel, which has had his marmalade brownie with bourbon on the menu since last year.
