A bakery in the London borough of Brent has re-opened following a £1,559 fine and forced closure for a cockroach infestation.

High Crown Bakery in Harlesden was closed down by Brent Council on 19 February after Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notices were issued and ratified by Willesden Magistrates Court on 2 March.

It was ordered to pay £1,559 by the court and has since removed the “imminent risk” to health and been allowed to re-open.

The bakery was closed down following a routine inspection when officers found it “posed an imminent risk to the health of the public”. Councillor George Crane, lead member for the environment at Brent Council, said: “Cockroaches in food and drink establishments are disgusting and entirely unacceptable.

“They pose a potential risk to health and will often result in immediate closure where consumer health is at risk.”
