Edinburgh’s Cuckoo’s Bakery is to open its second shop, in nearby Bruntsfield in the second week of April.

The bakery, which won ‘Best Cake in Scotland’ in the Scottish Baker of the Year Awards 2014, has an existing shop in Dundas Street, Edinburgh.

It also supplies customers including Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh.

Joint owner Graham Savage, who founded the company with Vidya Sarjoo in 2011, said the new shop will have around 10 seats, as well as selling takeaway cakes.

Both shops will be supplied from the company’s bakery, based on an industrial estate.

Savage commented: “We are also seeing our online business growing. We relaunched our website in January and we have doubled orders. We will be taking on three or four new staff for the new shop and another baker, so we will now have 15 staff.”

The wholesale side of the business accounts for around 10% of sales, he added.
