Loughborough based Geary’s Bakery is planning another factory after outgrowing its current site.

It last moved just five months ago but has seen a big uplift in sales resulting from a long-standing contract with Aldi. It moved from Ratby to its 20,000sq ft premises Barrow-on-Soar in 2012 after a £1.5m investment and spent a further £2.5m extending into a neighbouring unit at the end of 2014.

According to the Leicester Mercury, it is now in talks to take on a further 15,000sq ft nearby to cope with growing demand. Investment could be up to £2.5m and is expected to be open by sping/summer next year.

It said it is anticipating a turnover of £15m this calendar year, compared with £11.5m in 2014.

Jason Geary, managing director, told the Leicester Mercury: “Ratby was an old site – it wasn’t a case that we had outgrown it, but it was old and tired and we were being forced to extend to the size of the land so it was a little bit here, there and everywhere.

“Since we’ve been in Barrow we’ve gone from strength to strength, a lot of which is on the back of trading with Aldi.

“Last October we took on the 10,000 sq ft next door unit and have spent £2.5m getting it up to standard and getting equipment in.

“We are now making more than 300,000 loaves a week. At one point back in Ratby we did about 25,000 loaves a week.

“We also now have about 175 staff compared with the 100 we had there.”
