The world’s first Cornish Pasty drive-thru has been inundated in its first few days of opening, managing director of Portreath Bakery Marion Symonds has exclusively told British Baker.

The 3.5-acre site in Pool, Cornwall, which opened on 6 July, is described as a “one-stop shop”, boasting not just the drive-thru but a 100-seater restaurant, gluten-free bakery, bakery shop and state-of-the-art training facility.

The facility will be partnering with the Cornwall College Group to train bakers of the future. It will also be taking on young apprentices and will be developing bakery school lessons and workshops.

Symonds told British Baker: “It has caused a really great stir and there is a great buzz in the air about the drive-thru. I am on Radio Europe on Friday and this is great for our baking industry.

“I bought the bakery in 1998 and only had one shop and three staff. I found my first article from British Baker the other day about me opening a bakery 27 years ago.”
