JG Ross celebrates tour sell-out success

Aberdeen’s JG Ross bakery has hailed sell-out tours of its bakery.

The 2014 BIA Customer Focus award winners sold all 77 tickets for three tours of its bakery and headquarters in Inverurie, Aberdeen.

The tours will offer visitors the chance to see inside the bakery, where it claims to produce more than 110,000 rowies (savoury Aberdeen rolls) a week. Tickets were sold at £15 each. 

George Ross, founder of JG Ross bakery, told the Evening Express: “The tours are about three hours long and involve the visitors having a meal, before getting a tour of the bakery and a talk about the history of the company from myself.

“The visitors will get the chance to see how butteries are made and they will get to take home the ones they saw being made while on their tour.”

Dianne Smith, marketing manager said: "In the year of food and drink we decided to use this as an opportunity to showcase our craft skills and the bakery we are proud of. We have always toyed with the idea of selling tickets to tours but never been brave enough to take the plunge.  

"We have done tours for local WRIs, Brownies and have always had positive feedback.  Consumers can’t believe that so many of our products are still hand crafted, using traditional methods, there is a perception that machines have taken over and with the volumes going out of our doors people can’t believe its done by hand."  

Three different tours will take place on Thursday, and will be attended by people from as far afield as York and even Houston USA.
