Those chosen as finalist in the National Cupcake Championships will be treated to chocolate masterclasses by specialist Barry Callebaut.

The chocolate expert, which is a sponsor of the event, will host two classes, normally worth up to £300 per person, covering decoration techniques using chocolates and transfer as well as a quick and easy way to temper chocolate.

There is only one way to be there - to enter the Championships. Hopefuls have six categories to choose from: Classic; Chocolate; Free From; Seasonal; Children’s; and Made with Alcohol. You must have a registered UK business to apply and entries cost £15+VAT.

A panel of industry experts will whittle entrants down to 10 in each category and the 60 will be invited to the grand final at Bakels’ test bakery Bicester on 14 September - the first day of National Cupcake Week. Judges will perform the all-important taste test on the day to find a winner of each category, as well as an overall champion.

The event is also sponsored by online ordering company Hello and... and hosted by Bakels.
