A finalist in the National Cupcake Championships 2015 has revealed business plans live on the radio as we gear up for the final.

Jennifer Sutton, who runs Jen’s Cupcakery in Esher, Surrey, has made it to the competition final with a chocolate crème de menthe mint cookie cupcake, entered into the Made with Alcohol category.

She was invited onto Mark Carter and Suzanne Bamborough’s BBC Surrey morning show to talk about the National Cupcake Championships 2015 and also revealed plans to rebrand the business and launch two products that are currently in development.

Sutton plans to rebrand the business to Jen’s Cupcakery and Bakery within the next two months to represent that the business has grown from its cupcake-only beginnings. Due to customer requests, Sutton now makes a number of products from celebration cakes to cookies and cake pops.

The new branding will be ready “in the next couple of months” and will be designed for free by her sister, who works in that field.

“I started off just doing cupcakes and really only intended to ever make cupcakes,” Sutton told British Baker. “No matter what people say about cupcakes being a craze, they won’t be over because people still love them. I’m changing my name because I really make everything. I’ll get a new logo on the website and labelling.”

Sutton also has two new products in development – one is non-edible and is an invention she would have patented and believes it could be sold in many retail outlets. More information on this is under wraps until the launch in around a year.

The second forthcoming launch is a "brownie with a twist".

The National Cupcake Championships 2015 final will be held on the first day of National Cupcake Week – 14 September – at Bakels bakery in Bicester. The event is sponsored by Barry Callebaut, online ordering service Hello and… and hosted by Bakels.

Listen to Sutton's interview, which starts at 2 hours and 53 minutes.
