£20k Jammie Dodger and lager lorry suspect denied bail

A man appeared in court last week charged with stealing a lorry load of Burton’s Biscuits and a lorry load of lager.

Aaron Walsh, 24, from Liverpool, appeared before magistrates in Newport Magistrates’ Court on 22 October, charged with a total of five counts of theft, all of which he denied.

He was charged with stealing around £20,000 of biscuits from the Burton’s factory in Cwmbran, South Wales on 17 June.

He was also charged with stealing a £50,000 DHL trailer containing the biscuits from Burton’s premises.

And he was charged with stealing around £43,000 worth of cans of lager in a lorry from an industrial estate in Hythe, Kent, in the early hours of 17 May.

He faced two charges associated with this theft - of taking a £15,000 Scania lorry cab and hooking it up to steal an £8,000 trailer containing the cans of lager at the 24-hour Lympne Industrial Estate.

Chair of the bench at Newport Magistrates’' Court, Jason Tucker, declined to grant him bail. Walsh was remanded in custody to appear at Newport Crown Court on 5 November.
