Independent producer Jaz & Jul’s has opened an artisan chocolate café and shop in Islington, London, selling cocoa-themed sweet and savoury bites as well as hot drinks.

The Chocolate House, based in Islington’s Chapel Market, is the first permanent location for the brand, which was initially set up by Jasmine Kershaw and Juliet Sampson as a stall at Broadway Market in east London.

Signature chocolate brownies, chewy rocky road slices, chunky cookies and gluten-free baked goods are among the sweet items being sold alongside a collection of 12 ethically-sourced organic hot chocolates.

“Everything is chocolate-themed,” Kershaw told British Baker. “We’re producing most of our baked goods internally and have worked with the baker to come up with a whole bunch of really cool recipes.”

The larger premises include a downstairs space ideal for private parties and events and a window allowing customers to view the chocolate being prepared.

More handmade drinking chocolate will also be supplied to other independent coffee shops and delis in the future, the business said.
