Higgidy Pies is set to celebrate British Pie Week in style by producing its 50-millionth pie.

British Pie Week runs from 7-13 March and the West Sussex-based pie manufacturer said the milestone pie would be produced during this period.

The company was founded by Camilla Stephens in 2001 and makes premium pies, quiches and sausage rolls. It produces more than 300,000 pies a week, and sells through major retailers including Sainsbury’s, Ocado and Waitrose.

Stephens said: “British Pie Week is an exciting time of year for us, and the height of our pie production. We’ve come a long way since I created the first Higgidy pie in my kitchen 15 years ago, and we’re delighted to be making our 50-millionth pie this year.

“Higgidy has been able to capture the public’s constantly growing appetite for more interesting and unusual flavours and twists on a classic, which is shown in our best seller, Spinach Feta and Toasted Pine Nut Pie, which we sell in the hundreds every day.”

The company was named as one of the London Stock Exchange’s 1,000 fastest-growing companies of 2016 and said that, this year, it expected to nearly double its 2013 turnover from £13m to £25m.

Last autumn, Higgidy ran its Sofa Supper Club campaign, which aimed to capitalise on what it called Friday night casual dining.
