Margate’s Speciality Breads is one of 16 shortlisted companies for the overall Responsible Business Champion award.

The Kent company is one of the 16 nominees chosen from 56 constituency champions to become the National Responsible Business Champion 2016. The overall winner will be chosen on 6 July and presented with the award by the Business Secretary Sajid Javid, at a reception in Parliament.

Speciality Breads was named as a national nominee after becoming Thanet’s Responsible Business Champion.

The company launched a new £3m bakery last November, and was nominated by MP Sir Roger Gale for North Thanet and MP Craig Mackinlay for South Thanet.

The company said it was selected “due to the positive impact the company has on its staff, the local community and constituencies”.

Peter Millen, managing director of Speciality Breads, said: “It’s a huge honour to have been nominated by both Sir Roger Gale and Craig MacKinlay, and to get some recognition for the positive impact we have on the local area and community.”
