London-based Gail’s Artisan Bakery is heading a campaign to raise funds for Magic Breakfast, a charity that aims to end hunger as a barrier to education in UK schools.
Gail’s plans to raise money for at least 10,000 breakfasts for hungry schoolchildren at its annual Street Party this September.
The Street Party, now in its 11th year, will be donating 22p to Magic Breakfast from every item sold from a number of stalls. The bakery said that 22p was the cost of one breakfast for kids at school who needed it most.
Gail’s annual Street Party is a “celebration of craftsmanship”, according to the company, with friends of the bakery, including a cheesemonger and cured meats retailer, among other suppliers, hosting stalls. Gail’s itself will host a sausage roll station, alongside other fresh-baked sweets, savouries and breads.
Tom Molnar, founder of Gail’s Bakery, said: “No child should go without breakfast and we are humbled by the impact that Magic Breakfast has in schools across London. The Gail’s Street Party, as well as being great fun, allows us to be able to help kids learn better, by having healthy breakfasts.”
The Gail’s Street Party will take place on 17 September outside the bakery’s original shop in Hampstead High Street.
Magic Breakfast was founded in 2003 by Carmel McConnell.
Gail’s recently opened its first out-of-London store in Oxford.
