Next week the Real Bread Campaign’s (RBC’s) fourth annual #SourdoughSeptember begins.

Fermentalists will unite for a month of feasts, baking classes and other sourdough shenanigans, to spread awareness of sourdough.

This year the Real Bread Campaign is encouraging people UK-wide to hold sourdough toast and tea mornings, sourdough pizza evenings or make naked pizzas to show off the unadorned glory of their brilliant bases.

As well as selling loaves, many bakeries in the RBC network will be giving away pots of sourdough starter for people to bake with at home.

In May the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) declined to take action following a complaint by RBC about advertising claiming that artisan bread can be made using a packet mix.
