The Bolton branch of Poundbakery has donated £1,000 to the Bolton hospice from charging 5p for its carrier bags.

The contribution is part of the bakery’s ‘Summer Charity Project’, which chooses several charities to receive money from its 5p plastic bag charge.

Poundbakery has been raising money for charity since the plastic carrier bag charge began last year. Since then, the business as a whole has raised a total of £27,000 which will be distributed between 27 charities across the region.

Poundbakery’s marketing manager Keely Palin said: “We are all delighted to be giving £1,000 to Bolton Hospice and are confident it will be a wonderful benefit.

“Bolton Hospice do such great work in the region with helping patients as well as providing family support.”

Bolton Hospice provides specialist care and support to people who may be suffering with incurable illnesses.

Funding will go towards maintaining a specialise team of nursing staff, specialist doctors and other hospice staff who keep the wards running.

Poundbakery, founded by Sayers, has recently opened new stores in Mansfield, Crewe and throughout the Midlands.
