Canadian and US restaurant chain Tim Horton’s will expand into the UK market after announcing a joint venture with a British investor.

The brand, which is part of Burger King owner Restaurant Brands International (RBI), serves fresh baked goods, paninis, sandwiches, wraps and other food products.

Gurprit Dhaliwal will lead the UK joint venture company as chief executive of the master-franchise joint venture. He said the business would focus on delivering “great products and an exceptional guest experience”.

RBI said in a statement that the deal was part of its plans to take the Tim Horton’s brand around the world. "This brand already has almost 4,500 restaurants across Canada, the US and the Middle East. Last month a master franchise joint venture agreement to develop in the Philippines was announced.”

The company will bring some of its signature products to British consumers, and described the UK as an attractive quick-serve restaurant market with a strong and growing coffee culture.

Tim Horton’s is known for its Timbits donut bites that are sold in a range of snack-pack size flavours.

Earlier this month, American snack and confectionery supplier Innovative Bites announced that it will move into new premises in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.
