Muntons project shortlisted for energy industry award

Muntons, the Suffolk-based maltster and malted ingredients supplier, has been shortlisted for the Industrial Project of the Year by the Association of Decentralised Energy (ADE).

The award demonstrates excellence in low-carbon and renewable energy generation and Muntons was nominated by industry partner ENER-G which provides efficient ‘Combined Heat and Power’ (CHP) technology.

The 499kW system supplies 11% of Muntons’ electrical baseload, providing cost and carbon savings. The heat generated is used to pasteurise high-quality biofertiliser – the residue from the anaerobic digestion (AD) process - which is used on local agricultural land.

Ryland Cairns, environment manager for Muntons, stated: “I am thrilled that the ENER-G and Muntons team are receiving further industry recognition; it speaks volumes for the quality of the concept, the quality of the AD Plant and the quality of the CHP technology.

“We are proud to be working alongside another organisation that values the importance of research and innovation to develop greener products and services.”

The winners will be announced at The Heat Conference on 23 November in the Grand Connaught Rooms, London.

In July, Muntons won a top accolade at the AD and Biogas Industry Awards for its Stowmarket plant.
