Doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme has opened up its 500th in-store cabinet with Tesco that signals a milestone for the two brands.

The 500th cabinet has opened at Tesco Extra Silverburn, Glasgow and follows a year of expansion across the Scottish market.

Krispy Kreme has continued to grow this year after opening up 48 brand new cabinets within Tesco stores across the nation.

Each self-serve cabinet is supplied by one of Krispy Kreme’s 13 UK ‘Hotlight’ stores, which produce the company’s 16 doughnut varieties, and deliver them fresh every day to surrounding outlets.

Suk Nicholas, UK sales director at Krispy Kreme, said: “Our goal has always been to provide UK customers with the joy of Krispy Kreme – and Tesco continues to be an important partner in achieving this. We are so proud of how far we have come together in just 12 years, and look forward to many more to come.”

Jim Colgan, store manager of Tesco Extra Silverburn, said: “We are both delighted and proud to be the 500th Tesco site that stocks Krispy Kreme – we have seen the positive impact Krispy Kreme has to our customers and we are excited to have this fantastic brand available for our customers."

The retailer recently withdrew its plans for a £200m London flotation after announcing the 100% sale of its shares to US parent brand owner Krispy Kreme Group.

The UK business sells about 50m doughnuts a year and was owned by Alcuin after it took control in a deal in 2011 that valued the company at around £25m.
