Small business campaign set to boost independent bakers

Independent bakers are being encouraged to join a campaign designed to put small businesses in the spotlight.

Bakery firms are urged to get involved with Small Business Saturday, which takes place on 3 December, by visiting the campaign website and sending off for free marketing packs that include posters and window stickers.

Also available on the website are digital logos, banners, a social media guide and various toolkits.

Bakeries around the country can upload information to the ‘My Small Business Finder’ on the website and highlight any special events or promotional offers they will be running for Small Business Saturday.

London bakery Ma Baker said it was a big fan of the campaign.

“My social media profile was raised, which ensured more customers and my credibility as a business was also enhanced,” said Ma Baker owner Liz Wilson. “However, one of the best things was having the chance to meet other small businesses and share ideas and contacts.

“When you work by yourself, you can feel a bit isolated but now I have many people I can turn to for advice. The people involved in Small Business Saturday are brilliant. They are so committed and so supportive and I absolutely loved working with them.”

The campaign, which is in its fourth year, caught the attention of Twitter last year with Small Business Saturday trending at number one. More than 100,000 tweets were sent in support of Small Business Saturday with a combined reach of more than 25 million people.

Activity also includes a five-week, 29-stop bus tour spanning the UK that aims to promote small businesses and host workshop and seminars.
