A new bakery is among expansion plans for Lidl’s store in Norbury, South London.
The retailer has applied to Croydon Council for permission to add a 120 sq m extension to the store. This will be filled with a ’selection of freshly baked goods and an enhanced range of bakery products’, according to the application.
Lidl has improved its bakery facilities across a number of stores in Scotland, including Dalry, North Ayrshire and Penicuik over the past few months.
Chris Young-Wootton, Lidl UK’s regional head of property, said: "We are always looking at ways to improve our existing portfolio of stores.
"We’ve seen incredible demand in the Norbury store so have decided to take this step to increase our bakery offering in order to enhance the shopping experience for our customers."
More than six million British shoppers are visiting Lidl stores each week, said the retailer, half a million more a week than in 2015.
Lidl’s share of UK grocery sales rose to 4.6% in the 12 weeks to 9 October this year, according to Kantar Worldpanel, up from 4.3% in the same period in 2015.
