Bakkavör has announced the appointment of two new non-executive directors – including McDonald’s veteran Denis Hennequin.

Hennequin, who is also a non-executive director at SSP Group, has spent most of his career at McDonald’s Corporation in senior financial and operational roles.

He became McDonald’s president and chief executive officer Europe, a role in which he was responsible for changing the image and concept of McDonald’s Europe, said Bakkavör.

Hennequin was appointed chairman and CEO of Accor in 2011, and left the business in 2013 to pursue an advisory and portfolio career. He is currently a non-executive director of Eurostar International and John Lewis Partnership.

Also joining the Bakkavör board is Simon Burke, a chartered accountant who has held roles including CEO of Virgin Retail UK, CEO of Virgin Entertainment Group and chairman and chief executive of Hamleys.

He completed a restructuring and subsequent sale of Hamleys and, in 2003, left to specialise in value creation roles, sitting on the boards of companies including Mitchells & Butlers and Majestic Wine.

Burke is currently a non-executive director of The Co-operative Group and the BBC, and is also chairman of The Light Cinemas (Holdings) and Blue Diamond.

“We are delighted to welcome Denis and Simon to Bakkavör,” said Bakkavör group chairman Lýđur Guđmundsson. “As we continue to deliver against our successful strategy and, in particular, pursue further growth in the UK and internationally, both Denis and Simon bring invaluable new skills to our board.”

Last month, Bakkavör announced a 3% hike in like-for-like revenue to £427.1m in its third-quarter results. Year-to-date like-for-like revenue was also up 3% at £1.27bn.
