Mondelēz investigates live maggot in Cadbury biscuit

Mondelēz International has launched an investigation after a consumer found a live maggot in the wrapper of a Cadbury’s biscuit selection box.

Jake Robinson discovered the maggot inside the foil wrapper of a Ginger Crunch biscuit, along with “some sort of mucus”.

A Mondelēz International spokesperson told British Baker that the company was sorry to hear about this unusual experience.

“The quality of our products is of paramount importance to us and we have launched a full and thorough investigation.

“We have asked that the consumer return the product to us, so we can complete our investigation in partnership with Burton’s Biscuit Company, which manufactures Cadbury biscuits.”

Burton’s Biscuit Company responded to the incident by stating:

“We take the quality and safety of our products extremely seriously and are currently working closely with our supply chain to investigate this matter as a priority.”

Meanwhile, the Food Standards Agency told British Baker that it had received no direct reports regarding the incident.
