Maclean’s Bakery secures Lidl listing for its oatcakes

Scottish-based business Maclean’s Highlands Bakery has secured its first Lidl contract, worth more than £120k, for its oatcakes.

The oatcakes bites range will be sold as part of the supermarket’s McAllister’s biscuit brand and will be available in two different flavours: fierce chilli, and haggis and mature cheddar flavours.

Lewis Maclean, managing director for Maclean’s Highlands Bakery, said the company’s oatcakes were hand-baked and an adaptation of a 100-year-old family recipe, using the finest Scottish ingredients.

“From the start, Lidl have always worked with integrity and have understood our needs and the restrictions of working with us as a small business,” he said.

Lidl has said the deal will ensure that the oatcakes will be sold across all of the company’s 92 stores in Scotland.

“At Lidl we are passionate about working with local suppliers to develop great products using the best-quality ingredients and offering them to our customers at everyday low prices,” said Paul McQuade, head of food buying for Lidl in Scotland.
