WATCH: Bakery businesses feature in IGD skills promotion video

Bakery businesses feature in an employability skills promotional video produced by grocery research organisation IGD.

The video will play a role in IGD’s Feeding Britain’s Future workshops at schools across the nation, and will be played at the start of each workshop.

It highlights the range of roles available in the food and grocery supply chain, as well as how people use certain skills at work. IGD said it aimed to change perceptions of the food and grocery industry by revealing the range of jobs available.

IGD has also identified eight ‘essential employability skills’ that will help students up succeed in the food and grocery industry:

  • Entrepreneurial
  • Creativity
  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Leadership
  • Digital
  • Practical
  • Analytical

Joanne Denney-Finch, IGD chief executive, said the world of work was changing dramatically and many of the jobs of the future did not yet exist, especially in the food and grocery industry.

“We expect the employability skills to be highly valued by our industry in the future and they form the linchpin of our Feeding Britain’s Future Schools Programme,” Denney-Finch said.

“All our Feeding Britain’s Future workshops are attended by food and grocery industry professionals who share their experiences and bring these employability skills to life for students. Showcasing the industry in this way highlights to students how important these skills are in the world of work.”

British Baker has identified Allied Bakeries and Graze among the companies featured in the promotional video.
