Roberts Bakery baker Stuart Brotherton will be competing in the Toughest Mudder event at Belvoir Castle, Midlands on 13 May 2017.

Toughest Mudder is an eight-hour obstacle course taking place between midnight and 8am, with Brotherton aiming to run 25 miles during the event and raise at least £400 for female-orientated homeless project Cotswold House.

Cotswold House provides accommodation for homeless women aged 16 to 36 years in Winsford, Cheshire, and Brotherton’s donation will go towards refurbishing its nine bedrooms.

Brotherton was inspired to raise money for Cotswold House after taking part in a community volunteer programme to provide temporary accommodation for homeless women in the region.

His volunteering experience inspired him to do more to help the project.

“I’ve taken part in lots of endurance events, but this one will be my toughest by far and I’m really pleased to be doing it for this terrific local cause,” Brotherton said. “I volunteered to go to Cotswold House at the end of last year and I was really impressed with what they do there to help homeless women from all over Cheshire.

“It’s a great local project, but one that lots of local people still don’t know about and I came away wanting to do more.”

Carolyn Billington, support worker at Cotswold House, said the organisation really appreciated support from companies like Roberts Bakery to help maintain and improve its building and gardens.

“We are always busy with our residents, so we don’t have the time, let alone the skills, to do this type of work. It really is a huge help for us,” Billington said.

“Any fundraising is a massive bonus for us and we wish Stuart all the best in his epic challenge.”
