Linpac invest £320k in energy-efficient cooling system

Fresh food packaging company Linpac has invested more than £320k in a state-of-the-art outside chill plant at its Featherstone headquarters in West Yorkshire.

The investment will bring its UK cooling system in line with the European standards of Linpac Group, said the firm.

The new system, which replaces three existing evaporating cooling towers at the site, will run at a low ambient temperature for optimum energy efficiency and remove the risk of legionella bacteria formation on site.

Nathan Oades, UK engineering manager at Linpac, said the new cooling system complies with industry-wide best practise.

“The investment will have a positive environmental impact, with estimated energy savings of up to 26,000 tonnes of water and more than £120k in power per year,” Oades said. “And importantly it eliminates the potential health risks associated with vapour emitting systems, being fully HSHE compliant.”

In March 2016, Linpac invested £1.2m to produce a further 200 million expanded polystyrene trays each year.
