Sainsbury’s introduces 30-minute click and collect trial

Sainsbury’s has introduced a click and collect trial that enables customers to order their shopping online and pick up 30 minutes later via new app Chop Chop.

The trial, which is taking place at its store in Pimlico, will be a UK first for a supermarket to offer sub one-hour collection options for no fee, according to Sainsbury’s.

The Chop Chop app, which is limited to Android devices, will enable customers to select and pay for up to 25 items for collection in 30 minutes.

Orders will be packed and ready for the customer to retrieve by showing their order number at the store’s Chop Chop desk. This number will be available via the app or can be sent in an email, depending on customer preference.

Clodagh Moriarty, director of online at Sainsbury’s, said the retailer wanted to offer a customer experience that was differentiated in terms of price but also in terms of service.

“We were the first UK supermarket to introduce one-hour delivery last year and we’re now delighted to be the first to trial a 30-minute click & collect service,” said Moriarty. “It’s an exciting time for the business and we hope to see a positive response from our shoppers.”

Last month, Tesco rolled out a nationwide same-day grocery delivery offering, which they claimed to be a UK first for a supermarket.
