Wrights Food Group is to acquire Stoke-on-Trent bakery Premier Catering, which has been supplying it with bread for more than 30 years.

Premier has been baking and delivering loaves, baguettes and baps to Wrights’ shops across north Staffordshire and south Cheshire.

“We have acquired the business to ensure continuity of supply but also to expand the range,” said Wrights Food Group chairman and CEO Peter Wright.

Wrights, which has an annual turnover of more than £50m, supplies savoury products, cakes and ready meals to restaurant brands, supermarket chains and independent retailers, and exports to over 26 countries.

Premier is to be moved from its current site in Anchor Road, Longton, to a purpose-built unit attached to the Wrights’ bakery centre in Crewe. The transition is expected to complete by the end of this month.

Wrights will also be investing in “state-of-the-art” bakery equipment at the new site to increase production, while retaining quality. Staff from Premier Catering will be moving to the purpose-built unit to ensure continuity in standards.

“Premier Catering has supplied us with high-quality bread for in excess of 30 years,” added Wright. “Investment will help us to increase production and to grow.”

Rolando Tuano (pictured above), owner of Premier Catering, said: “The deal is great news for both companies and I am delighted it has been agreed. The time is right for the acquisition. We are looking forward to building on the great relationship we have forged over the past three decades.”

Wrights recently announced it would be supplying its pies to a third of all the clubs in the Football League following new contract wins.
